Sports Day 2023

Cricket Events - Year 3/4 and Year 5

On 19th April a group of Year 3 and 4 children went to Newbold Verdon Cricket Club to take part in a Cricket festival. They took part in a carousel of activities, which worked on all the key skills, such as batting, bowling and fielding. They then had the chance to apply these skills in a couple of matches. The children really tried their best and enjoyed themselves.

On 26th April a team from Year 5 competed in a Cricket tournament at Newbold Verdon CC. For most, it was their first taste of a Cricket match, but it didn't show as they put in some fantastic performances, winning all their games bar one. This meant that they took second place! Congratulations and well done to those involved.

Football news

On Tuesday 14th March two teams of footballers headed over to St Peter's school in Market Bosworth to play league fixtures.

The girls produced a fantastic display in a very exciting game that was end to end and had lots of goals. The team were fantastic, but unfortunately lost to a last minute goal.

Due to some last minute withdrawals, the boys team was mostly made up of Year 4 & 5 children and they battled bravely against a team of Year 6 children. It was a fantastic defensive display, with flying saves, brave blocks and crunching tackles. They should be very proud of the way that they played and the effort that they put in.

Table Tennis

After having the tables installed before Christmas, our new Sports Leaders had their first go at organising and running a tournament with the inaugural Barlestone Primary School Table Tennis Tournament.

Over 50 children from KS2 entered and took part;: some who had played before and many who hadn't. It was great to see the children giving a new sport a go. All of the games were played in the right spirit and there were some fantastic skills on display. The Sports Leaders did an excellent job of umpiring and collating results, thus making an enjoyable tournament for all.

The final was a very hard fought and close game, and with a trophy as the prize, both players gave it their all. The final score was 18 - 16, a huge well done to all who took part.

Year 3 and 4 Dodgeball

A team from Year 4 went to Bosworth Academy to take part in the Bosworth district Year 3/4 Dodgeball tournament. They performed fantastically well, applying the skills and tactics they had learned in PE lessons, to win the majority of their games. After a tense play-off, the team reached the semi final and then the final. The final ended in a tie and so it went to sudden death, in which Barlestone just came up short. A huge well done to the team, who should be proud of themselves!

Year 6 Basketball

After their brilliant performances before Christmas saw them qualify, the Year 6 Basketball team competed in the Hinckley & Bosworth Finals. They did brilliantly to reach the finals where they went up against some much larger schools. Unfortunately, they were not able to bring back the trophy, but they displayed fantastic teamwork and perseverance. They should be proud of themselves, because everyone at Barlestone certainly are!

Dodgeball December 2022

Dodgeball December 2022

Before Christmas a team of Year 5 and 6 children represented Barlestone in a Dodgeball tournament at Bosworth Academy. In freezing conditions, the children hit their stride early and displayed excellent teamwork and communication to work together to achieve some early wins. Unfortunately, they were narrowly defeated in the semi finals, but they should be very proud of themselves for the qualities they displayed.

Basketball

A huge well done to the Year 6 Basketball players who competed in the qualifiers at Bosworth Academy on Tuesday 6th December. They won every single match, which means they have now qualified for the finals in January! Congratulations and well played to all of our basketball players.

Sports Hall Athletics

On 29th November a team of Year 5 students travelled to Hinckley Leisure Centre to compete in Sports Hall Athletics. It was a very exciting competition that involved a variety of events, such as sprint relays, obstacle courses, long distance relays, a mixture of jumping events and throws. The children did fantastically well competing against older children. The girls team even managed to finish third! They all had a brilliant time and did the school proud.

Football

The boys and girls football teams hosted their first league games of the season against Mercenfield Primary at the start of November. The boys battled hard against a very good opposition and did not give up, but fell to defeat. The girls took an early lead and played brilliantly but could not quite hold on for the win. Well done to both teams.

Sports Leaders

We now have a group of year 5 and 6 children who are trained as our new Sports Leaders! They completed two days of training, run by the HBSSPAN which showed them leadership and organisational skills as well as a variety of ideas for games and activities. After Christmas they will start organising and leading games and activities for children at lunchtimes and they already have lots of brilliant ideas for tournaments and other events. Watch this space!

Table Tennis

ou may have spotted the new additions of the table tennis tables in our playground. The children are now enjoying using them during their lunchtimes and the Sports Leaders already have a competition planned for the new year. A huge thank you to Mr Gear, who gave up his time to come in and install the tables.
